Emotional literacy at Windlehurst School
Windlehurst is a school for key stage 3 & 4 pupils (aged 11-16) experiencing a range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Resolutions First worked with a group of pupils from the school, helping them to develop self-esteem, emotional literacy, confidence and skills to better manage social situations, and also to deal more effectively with the conflict in their lives.
The programme spanned from November 2004 to March 2005 with a group of young men attending our centre for one day a week. The sessions engaged and motivated pupils through team challenges, project work, group discussions, role play and art. Opportunities for reflection were built into the sessions to allow pupils to discuss conflict and behaviour, social skills, learning styles and personal goals on a one to one basis.
All pupils who completed the programme were successful in achieving a Level 1 certificate accredited by the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA).
