A recent evaluation of the impact of playground buddies in two Manchester primary schools found that 78% of children felt safer in the playground with buddies on duty.

A playground buddy scheme is just one important piece of the jigsaw of creating a peaceful and inclusive school - others are a school council; circle time; emotional literacy programmes; peer mentoring; peer mediation. This manual has grown out of work among Manchester schools over the last seven years.
