Introduction to Conflict Resolution*

There are two courses in this section:

1) Introduction to Conflict Resolution Theory and Practice gives a general overview of conflict resolution and provides an introduction to using some basic conflict resolution techniques.

2) Introduction to Conflict Resolution Skills focuses purely on developing the foundational skills for managing and resolving conflict.

Introduction to Conflict Resolution Theory and Practice* - 1 day course

Aim

To raise awareness of conflict resolution and introduce methods to deal with conflict more effectively. This is course is aimed at those with little experience of working with conflict.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of what is meant by conflict resolution.
  • Be able to identify when conflict resolution techniques are appropriate.
  • Be able to recognise the stages a conflict goes through.
  • Understand and start using techniques for resolving conflict, including Non Violent Communication.

Introduction to Conflict Resolution Skills* - 1 day course

Aim

This is a skills-focussed course, helping participants to learn strategies for dealing with conflict more effectively.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Explore what conflict is and the skills and qualities needed for conflict resolution.
  • Learn strategies for applying these skills and qualities to prevent and manage conflict situations.
  • Reflect on their own conflict management styles.
  • Develop greater confidence in their ability to manage/resolve conflicts.

Advanced Conflict Resolution Skills* - 1 day course

Aim

To further explore conflict resolution theory and develop skills for analysing and resolving conflict situations effectively. This course is suitable for people who have completed an 'introduction to conflict resolution' training course.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of different theories of conflict.
  • Understand their own responses to conflict more fully.
  • Use tools for analysing the stages a conflict goes through.
  • Practice tips and strategies for achieving a win/win in conflict situations.

Restorative Justice in Schools* - 1 day

Aim

To introduce the principles of Restorative Justice and explore practical ways of using restorative approaches to repair harm and restore relationships in a school context.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of the underlying principles of Restorative Justice.
  • Develop an awareness of the benefits of using restorative approaches to resolve conflicts in a range of situations.
  • Learn a range of strategies to introduce and implement Restorative Justice principles and practices into your school.

Restorative Conferencing - 3 day Training Programme

Day one

  • The background and theory behind Restorative Conferencing
  • When to run a conference
  • Who to include

Day two

  • Conference preparation
  • Conference facilitation

Day three

  • Conference variations
  • Developing a code of practice and policy
  • The way forward

The training will be relaxed, mainly interactive and will include discussions, DVD¡¦s and role play. By the end of the three days participants will be equipped with the understanding, knowledge, skills and confidence to prepare for and run a group conference.

Emotional Literacy (Primary Teachers)* - 1 day course

Aim

To introduce Emotional Literacy, its links to the SEAL curriculum and to explore practical ways for delivering Emotional Literacy in the primary classroom.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand what Emotional Literacy is.
  • Understand what the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) curriculum is.
  • Develop practical strategies and tools for introducing Emotional Literacy and SEAL into the primaryclassroom.

Emotional Literacy (Secondary Teachers)* - 1 day course

Aim

To introduce Emotional Literacy, its links to the SEBS curriculum and to explore practical ways for delivering Emotional Literacy in the secondary classroom.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand what Emotional Literacy is.
  • Understand what the Social, Emotional and Behavioural Skills (SEBS) curriculum is.
  • Develop practical strategies and tools for introducing Emotional Literacy and SEBS into the secondary classroom.

Behaviour Management / dealing with difficult behaviour* - 1 day course

Aim

To develop an understanding of the causes of difficult behaviour and to develop skills for effectively managing this using a range of techniques.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Develop an understanding of what causes difficult behaviour.
  • Learn 'do's' and 'don'ts' when dealing with difficult behaviour.
  • Develop a 'toolbox' of techniques to use when dealing with difficult behaviour.

Bullying Awareness* - 1 day course

Aim

To develop an understanding of the causes, effects and signs of bullying, as well as giving participants the skills to help people who are being bullied.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand what constitutes 'bullying' behaviour.
  • Understand the dynamics, causes and effects of bullying.
  • Learn skills to enable them to spot signs of bullying and support someone who is being bullied.
  • Practice strategies to help someone who is being bullied.
